Important Update: Water Temperature & Time Trials

Hi Otter Families,

Quick update as we continue our daily “are we swimming today?” saga...

As of today (Wednesday, April 22), the water temperature is sitting at a brisk 64 degrees 🥶—which might be great for penguins, but not so much for Otters. We need it to reach at least 69 degrees to safely hold practice and events, so we’re watching it closely with the City and hoping for a little Texas sunshine magic.

If by Friday (April 24) the water is still refusing to cooperate, we’ll move Time Trials to Saturday, May 2. This is exactly why we built in a second week—because sometimes Mother Nature likes to keep things interesting.

We know this isn’t ideal, and we truly appreciate you rolling with the punches with us. We also want to be transparent and share the “why” behind the schedule shuffle—this week may feel a little chaotic, and anxiety might be high for our swimmers, but please know there’s a method to it—we promise!

We understand a new date may create conflicts for some families and open things up for others. The most important thing is that, at the end of all of this, we get times for our swimmers. So if your swimmer can’t attend the rescheduled Time Trials, we’ll coordinate another time to make sure they’re ready to go.

If we do move the date, we’ll reopen volunteer sign-ups, and families will need to declare availability again by 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29.

We’ll keep you updated tomorrow and Friday about water temperature and practices. But until then, we’ll be over here rooting for warmer water like it’s an Olympic sport!

Thanks again for your flexibility and sense of humor this week—we appreciate you all!
